1. Man calls it an accident God calls it an abomination
Man calls it a blunder God calls it a disease
Man calls it a defect God calls it a disease
Man calls it a chance God calls it a choice
Man calls it an error God calls it an enmity
Man calls it a fascination God calls it a fatality
Man calls it an infirmity God calls it iniquity
Man calls it a luxury God calls it a leprosy
Man calls it a liberty God calls it lawlessness
Man calls it a trifle God calls it a tragedy
Man calls it a mistake God calls it a madness
Man calls it a weakness God calls it willfulness
2. What is this mysterious thing, so down played, and (on occasion) actually denied by man but yet utterly denounced by God?
It's nothing but Satan's entrapping muck pit of SIN!
3. In a nutshell a person's concept of the holiness of God is directly connected to and governed by his understanding of the EXCEEDING SINFULNESS OF SIN!
4. The word sin is found hundreds of times in the Bible.
It's first mentioned where
it is said to have been lurking at the door of the world's first murderer,
Cain.
What is this deadly and damnable things that's so hated by God and so harmful to man?
5. The very word carries along with it the hissing sound of a vicious viper.
6. Some twenty centuries ago an angel named Gabriel appeared to a troubled carpenter named Joseph to reassure him of the purity of Mary.
7. Approximately 30 yrs. After this angelic announcement, this
babe, who had now grown into a strong manhood, was publicly introduced
by John the Baptist in the following manner:
"Behold
the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world."
8. There is a word in the Greek New Testament which perhaps most
clearly and closely defines sin.
The word is PARABASIS which means "to
overstep a forbidden line."
9. While it was an angel who introduced sin into the universe, Man is the one who invited it into the world.
10. Sin is so Sinful that we as Christians can not but penetrate the doctrine of it but slightly.
11. Scripture offers 3 major proofs and illustrations of the exceeding sinfulness of sin.
1. Consider a kindly and highly experienced craftsman creating a magnificent figure form out of nothing.
2. Upon it's creation this figure is given life.
3. Then this creation is covered with dazzling precious gems and equipped with beautiful musical systems
4. The creator then places this creation to rule over all the universe (under Him) and to enjoy it for eternity.
5. Millions of other created beings look to this one being for guidance.
6. His only responsibility is to faithfully serve his wise creator.
7. BUT.... one dark day for no reason at all the creation lashes out against it's creator to drive him from the universe He created.
8. What base and perverted ingratitude all this would display.
9. And yet, such was the case when Lucifer rebelled against
his mighty creator, God.
10. The depths and depravity of this sin in light of it's background can never be comprehended by any creature, angel or human.
1. One individual, the first of the human creation committed one sin and that sin being apparently so innocent men are prone to ridicule the thought that God would even notice it at all.
2. Yet that one sin is, according to divine estimation, sufficiently
evil to cause countless billions to suffer in the flesh and die.
1. The Son of God suffered to an infinite degree and died on the cross because of sin.
2. There was no other way that redemption could be secured.
However if only one man had sinned, I believe Jesus would have still
died.
3. Now, if sin is that deep that we can't even understand
it, Why do we want to be near it.
Why do we commit sin?
Why do we let satan have time in our lives?
4. Sin is poisonous
Sin is stubborn
Sin is cruel
Sin is destructive
Sin is filthy
and if you let sin creep in the walls of your life,
SIN WILL DESTROY YOU!
5. One of the truly great and far-reaching blessings of salvation is God's dealing with the subject of sin.
6. The repenting sinner is immediately and eternally
saved from the penalty of sin (in the past)
provided with victory over the power of sin (in the present)
and guaranteed final removal from the presence of sin (in the future).
A. When you sin you immediately lose six things.
1) the loss of light
" If we say that we have fellowship
with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth."
2) the loss of joy
3) the loss of Peace
4) the loss of love.
"But whoso keepeth his word,
in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are
in him"
5) the loss of fellowship
6) the loss of confidence
7) The possible loss of health and even physical life
"for this cause many are weak
and sickly among you, and many sleep."
1. If you are in your sins I didn't need to tell you all of that, you already know all of it.
2. But why should we want this to happen.
We have to prevent this evil thing from happening in our lives.
B. How can we prevent this thing called Sin
1. The Word of God
"Thy Word have I hid in mine heart,
that I might not sin against thee"
*It's been observed that the Bible will keep one from sinning
or sin will keep one from the Bible.
2. The intercession of the Son of God.
3. The ministry of the Spirit of God.
BUT, we are foolish:
4. If a person with a deadly disease would walk in the door
and you knew if you got to close to him you would catch it, you would probably
stay away from him.
5. Sin is so much worse. It's a plague that has caused
men to die for the past hundreds and thousands of years.
* a plague that caused Jesus to die
* a disease that can destroy all you have between the Lord
6. But yet we won't stay away from it.
7. It dulls man's ears
Darkens man's eyes of understanding
Diverts man's feet
Defiles man's tongue
Deceives his heart
Devours his heart
Dooms his soul
8. Once Satan had immediate consequence.....
* he lost his
coveted position as heaven's anointed cherub.
BUT still yet he has future consequences coming to him.
* one day he
will be cast into the lake of fire.
9. You'll be there with him if Jesus is not the Savior of your life.
Let me tell you something ........ THERE IS A WAY OUT
The only Ultimate and Final Victory over sin is Jesus Christ.
