Luke 10:42 "But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her."
Jude 1:3 "Beloved,
when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it
was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly
contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.;It is ironic
that people put thier wants and desires ahead of thier needs."
The alcoholic and the drug addict will buy alcohol and drugs before fleshly desires while neglecting their families.
The same goes with the gambler; he will gamble his pay-day away leaving his family with food or money enough to pay the bills.
It's sad to say, the Christian community today is no different.
We emphasize to our children the importance of
a secular education while neglecting their spiritual education.
We make rest and recreation a priority over serving
God and soul-winning.
We make leisure time a priority over worship
time.
We put the laying up of earthly treasures a priority
over laying up treasures in heaven.
God is gracious in that He often gives us the material things of our earthly desires, however, the needful things in life, whether they be earthly or spiritual, should be our primary goal!
I want to look at some things that are needful.
I. NEEDFUL THINGS FOR SINNERS--
Sinners need a:
A. Proper Awareness of Their Sinful Condition.
1. Sinner by nature
"For all have sinned, and come short of the glory
of God;"
Rom.3:23
2. Sinner by action
"Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the
world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all
have sinned:"
Rom. 5:12
3. Sinner by choice
"For the wages of sin [is] death; but the gift
of God [is] eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."
Rom. 6:23
B. Admit Personally about Their Sinful Condition.
1. They must admit that they're a sinner
2. They must admit their need of a Saviour
C. Positive Adherence To The Simple Plan of Salvation.
"That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the
Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from
the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto
righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation."
Rom.10:9,10
"I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall
all likewise perish."
Luke
13:3
1. Belief with head (understand)
2. Belief with the heart
a. The death of Christ
b. The burial of Christ
c. The resurrection of Christ
D. Powerful Acceptance Of The Only Saviour.
"But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, [even] to them that believe on his name:"
"There was a certain rich man, which was clothed
in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day: And there
was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of
sores, And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from
the rich man's table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores.
And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels
into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried; And
in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar
off, and Lazarus in his bosom. And he cried and said, Father Abraham,
have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger
in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame. But
Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good
things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and
thou art tormentedAnd beside all this, between us and you there is a great
gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither
can they pass to us, that [would come] from thence. Then he said,
I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father's
house: For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest
they also come into this place of torment. Abraham saith unto him,
They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them. And he said,
Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will
repent. And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets,
neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead."
Luke 16:19-31
